I was born on a council estate in Salford and attended the local comprehensive school. My parents always instilled in me a work ethic and I surprised both them and myself by becoming the first person in my family to go to university.
Following university I trained to be a Chartered Surveyor, moving to work for a local Blackburn firm and buying a house in the town 30 years ago. I now live in the Brownhill area and survey houses throughout East Lancashire.
Outside work I enjoy sport and am a member of Blackburn Harriers. I have competed in triathlon for 20 years with 3rd places for my age group in the European Championships and Ironman Wales in 2015.
I hope to be elected so I can bring this energy and drive to the council. I am not a political person but decided that rather than moaning on Facebook it is time to do something. Too much local politics is dominated by the same group of people and I hope to be able to shake things up for the good of my neighbours and local residents.
I feel that some of the suburbs of Blackburn are overlooked by the Council and I want to get involved to shake up the system and get things done. I want to empower local people to help themselves and for the council to provide the means rather than act as a road block.
I am a passionate believer in giving belief to our young people. With the right support from family and schools we should give our children the will, ambition and talent to exceed their parents. We must also provide the opportunities within Blackburn and Darwen to keep our brightest and best, too many of whom go to university never to return.
We need to foster a culture of the public and private sector working together in the town to return Blackburn with Darwen back to its rightful place as a great place to live and work.
